My Work Placement

I'm in work placement in Margate , in the English in Margate.  

Margate is popular seaside destination for over 100 years.

EIM is a private language school in Margate in the south east of England, on the Channel Coast. 

Its owner is Adam WILTON.

EIM provides high quality of the English language, in local history.  

The courses include intensive language training for adults, teacher training courses, exam preparation and courses for groups with special interests

Students of all ages and around the world come to learn English or improve any. 

A week ago around thirty students attending courses. 

In the school there is a club or the students is found at night.

I worked mostly with other interns, I realizes the administration for the arrival and departure of students

I realizes the Welcome Pack, Students cards, certificates of arrival and departure and lists of new students

I'm in work placement in Westgate-on-Sea, in the School : London House.

It's a school for international students, e.g Spanish, italian, german, chinese, japanese...

My supervisor is Liz Shrubsall, she is the principal of the school.

I work with Liz, Jianing, Gallia and Tim, the team is very nice, they are in charge of the placement to the students in the host family.

When the weather is nice we have lunch break outside.

Every day I help Liz, Jianing, Gallia and sometimes Tim.

With Liz, Jianing and Gallia : 
I check the list of the host family because there are a lot of changes every day.

Then i do the emergency card for the students, they must keep this card: there are some important information.

After on a document I put the information about the host family for all the students and about the recommandation.
Then I contact the host family by e.mail.

For each student I do a card with all the information and after I rank on a metallic board. Every day this board changes.

And finally I do the invoices for the host family, after they receiving a payment.

With Liz and Tim :
With them, I do the programme for the student because all the week are differents ! We find a lot of activities for the afternon and the evening.
Sometimes, I write the translation of documents for french students.
 

In the team there is a family atmosphere, warm and friendly...we are very busy but we laught a lot !

 

Broadstairs English Centre 

I work at Broadstairs English Centre, it's a friendly, modern English school on the Kent coast. It is a school for foreign student groups. They are many Spanish and Italian students . 

Chris McDermott is the principal of this school and Alex, the business director, is his brother. In this school, employees know each other personally and it's like a big family.

I work with Steph Parsons, the accommodation officer and she works in the same office as her husband Dave who is the directors of studies. Steph is responsible for assigning host families to students. 

I do various assignments in school, my first mission is to manage the database for host families and groups of students also, I prepare the student folders, I contact the host families by email, I do the invoices, I write the minutes of weekly meetings, I  make stationary orders and I also go with Steph make visits to potential host families. 

The atmosphere is very friendly ! and many moments of laughs when they try to speak French ... :)

Learn English in the Language UK School !

 Welcome to the School of English !

 At LanguageUK, there is a small, friendly team of qualified staff and teachers. You will see all of them on a daily basis and they are here to help you ! 

You can have lessons from Monday to Friday :

 

I have lessons on the mornings, and on the afternoons I work for the director, some teachers and sometimes for the director of studies.

I made some sorting in folders, I create some base of data. 

The main rule here is to speak in English -even with french people. 

You can learn English but also the Spanish.

The school can welcome 8 students in each of the 5 classrooms from the different origins.

I also offers a variety of different activities to do.

The bureau of the academic part where I work sometimes.

Bridges Insurance Brokers LTD

It's been two weeks that I work in Bridges Insurance Brokers LTD, in Ramsgate. 

(This is the little red point on the map, and if you have good eyes, maybe you'll see me in front of my computer, typing this post! )

I'm not working in a simple insurance. We sell insurances (our insurance or other insurances just like AXA, MMA...) But the purpose of Brokers is advising people to find the best insurance for them. (You'll find under this text a little explanation about how does Brokers work,)

I'am working in a big open-space with 12 people. Working in this kind of company is very hard, they have to deal with the phone which always ringing and the professional duties. One by one they show me what they do everyday, each of them have a speciality. Compatability, Commercial, Insurance Brokers...

For my 2 first weeks, I attended to a marketing meeting, I sort out the post, scanning archives, updated the organisation charter... And I try to make them pronounce "Manon". This part is very funny to heard!

The Walpole Bay Hotel

The Walpole Bay Hotel was built in 1914 by the Budge Family and extended in 1927 and rescued by Peter and Jane Bishop in 1995.




I work at the reception: I take the different orders for the customers who want a cream tea for example or a sandwich. Then, I answer the phone when my colleague is busy. When we receive a group I lay the tables and I welcome and inform the customers. Sometimes, I help my colleague for to register the customers in the computer.

We have a hairdresser in the Hotel and Makeup by Jerome Hillion, winner of avant gard hairdresser of 2005.

A restaurant can to welcome many people with the groups of 40 or 80 persons. We have a choice in the menu: snack menu, Walpole bay hotel salads, evening menu or special menu.

And in the Hotel, we have History Museum with antiques and a unique Napery Art Gallery attracting visitors from all over the world. Walpole has now become a destination in her own right, with something to interest all age groups and income or intellectual levels, from East End market trader to British aristocracy and everyone in between...

The Churchill House School it's a school for students around the world who want to leartn English. She was founded in 1971. Se have a main school in Ramsgate that offers a variety of language courses all year round and nine summer schools across the country, each with its own summer vacation course for younger students.

At the Churchill House scholl, I'm assistant with Amélia and we have for task to:

- Welcome students with my team and inquire if necessary
